Proteza total mobilizabilă cu placa acrilică până în prezent rămâne una din cele mai accesibile, facile în realizare și des utilizate în tratamentul edentației totale permițând de a restabili actul de masticație, funcțiile fonetice, estetice și de deglutiție dereglate. Una dintre problemele reabilitării pacienților cu edentație totală este procesul de adaptare la structurile ortopedice artificiale succesul acestuia depinzând de managementul disconfortului și al durerii în perioada de adaptare, atât din punct de vedere fizic cât și psihologic.
